All That I Have

Sci-Fi Blog

The best sci-fi character is Doc Brown from back to the future. He is the embodiment the best of character and the best science. He is so absent-minded and disconnected from the world he lives in because of his obsession for his science. He is a traveler. He uses his science to develop himself and to better the world. He is incredibly resourceful and quite admirable.

Ben Linus is the worst sci-fi villain. He is the best mixture of dishonesty and trustworthiness I have ever seen on screen. When going through the story, my feelings are like a tennis ball at Wimbledon. I trust him then, I hate him. He only cares about himself and he doesn’t care what or who he destroys in order to get what he wants. He is very resourceful and clever. He is an incredible schemer and can turn any situation on it’s head.

The Joker is the worst sci-fi villain. He is a terrorist first. He has no allegiance no goals. He only wants to cause chaos. He is not afraid to take human life or even mass murder. He is incredibly destructive and is very hard to catch. He is very daring and is very intimidating. He uses psychological techniques on his victims. He is completely unpredictable.

The End

The Wizard of Oz has a very memorable ending. Dorothy clicks her heels and is wisped back home. This is effective because there is total resolve. She leaves all of her cares and troubles in Oz. When I saw that film for the first time I realized the effect of having a film with closure.

Casino Royale had a great opening. I don’t know if it is the best, but I really enjoyed it at the time. It starts the movie off with intense foot chase and daring stunts. It really sets the tone of the movie.

Web of Risks

A friend of mine posted pictures of his hands groping a mannequin on Facebook. Although he had graduated from his school, they deemed his pictures inappropriate. He was banned from the school. This meant that he was not aloud to enter the gates of the school without express written consent.

In the scenario were I would be starting my own business and was beginning to interview potential employees I would be as thorough as I could to find out as much as I could about them. Especially in this scenario, because it is a small business and you need to have people you can trust. Facebook would be very helpful to that end. You would know what his reputation is among his friends with one glance at his wall. I would definitely use web-based social networks as a tool in the employment process.

See Them Go

I was most disappointed when I found out that Sarah Techretti was killed in the first episode of the third season of Prison Break. I think the reason I was the most disappointed was because everyone acted like nothing happened and by the next episode everyone had forgotten about it. The episode where she dies you never see her face except for in a picture. Later her head is sent in a box. I think it will be pretty hard for her to come back in another season. The whole thing was handled quite poorly.

 Song

09/21/09

The most memorable music to screen combos I've experienced is on the "Sopranos." They would often start of and end the episode with a song that would then set the mood for the entire show. They would often use songs repeatedly to make conjure memories of a distant event in an older episode. Unfortunately I cannot think of any specific episodes or songs. However, I do know that "The Sopranos” was the show.

Another film would be Wall-e. "Put on your Sunday clothes/There's lots of world out there," was played during the first part of the movie and throughout. This song humanized the robot. We understood his ambitions his goals.

Edge of Your Seat

I just watched Psycho for the first time this weekend. I was amazed at how surprised and anxious I was when it came to the shower scene. I knew that was happening. I knew the girl was going to be stabbed but it still kept me on the edge of my seat. That is impressive.

In “Misery” there is a scene where the writer is trying to hide a knife and is planning to stab the lady holding him. With so much anticipation, we sit there waiting for him to try the impossible. He falls a sleep. With a crack of lightning we see the lady standing over his bed. It is quite a frightening effect.

Memories

09/23/09

I believe that everything in life happens for a reason. We can choose to accept them or not maybe even repress these memories. But the fact remains that it happened. We have an opportunity to learn from our failures to be better people. Often times the bad things in our lives can give us character if we persevere. If we do not learn from our struggles and our failures than you are only causing damage to yourself. It is never helpful to deny your past. That does not mean you have to dwell on it or think of it often. It does mean that we need to remember and be better for it.

Burning House

I would pick the following:

Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator”

Kill Bill Volume 1

Saving Private Ryan

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back

I feel that these films are summation of my style and ambition as a filmmaker. I watch them for inspiration and set them up as career goals. If were not to have seen them I would not be the same filmmaker that I am today. They have all impacted me in that way.

And if I had time I would grab “Gareth” it was one of my first major productions. It is a benchmark of where I have been and a constant reminder of my passion for filmmaking.
